Matias Podboj set the tone at round one for the Phil Giebler Racing S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto division, sweeping the action in Buttonwillow. While it was not a complete sweep, Podboj extended his point lead once again with another strong performance in round two. Qualifying at the top of the order as the only S2 driver under the 43-second mark, his pace was evenly matched by Hawaiian Alex Gumpfer. Making his first start of the season, Gumpfer trailed close in the opening heat race. In the second moto, Gumpfer got the better start and led the entire 12 laps to end Podboj’s perfect streak. Matias, however, would strike back in the final. Trailing Gumpfer for the first half of the race, he retook the lead on lap 11 and drove away to a 2.659-second victory.

S2: DDR power dominated as Matias Podboj qualified on pole, won both heat races and won the main event! Vivek Tandon finished 2nd and Michael Leib finished 4th. All three were racing with Kimball Williams Racing on 2001 DDR Power. Continue reading...

In 2011, the Phil Giebler Racing-sponsored S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto division was stacked with numbers, but pretty much dominated by one person. This season could be a repeat of that, though with a different driver at the helm. Matias Podboj finished third in the overall S2 standings one year ago, but he is poised to make a run at the championship this season following the event sweep in Buttonwillow. PKC : The S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto category, sponsored by 2 Wild Karting and Sunshine Daydream Creations, fielded an astonishing 18 drivers with Matias Podboj showing the way early. PKC : "The 2 Wild Karting-sponsored S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto category witnessed its fourth different main event winner in as many events, this time with Matias Podboj taking the checkered flag. Race day- May 14th: Streets of Willow. Following practice warm-up #2, Matias(S2) was second overall just under a tenth from Ryon Beachner(S1). Going into qualifying, Matias made 3 laps, putting himself on pole position by 9 tenths in his class and 5th overall. Race day- April 9th, 2011: When it all came down to qualifying, Matias placed a 1st place just 7-thousands away from the 2nd place position. Feeling confident going into the first heat, Matias dropped back to 3rd in the first turn. From there on it was a constant battle close to the front leaders.
